Four Years of The Red Foxxx and an Exciting New Chapter

On October 1, The Red Foxxx celebrated its fourth anniversary.

Four years of fittings, conversations, beautiful pieces, and getting to know the people who walk through our door. Reaching this milestone has made me pause and appreciate how much has gone into building this little business and how many of you have helped it grow.

And this anniversary comes with some exciting news: The Red Foxxx is expanding to Rhinebeck!

We’re planning a future Rhinebeck location, and I’m thrilled to bring our personal approach to lingerie and fitting to another community. There are still details to share as things come together, but celebrating four years felt like the right moment to let you in on what’s ahead.

You’ve helped build this

I notice when you come back. When you bring a friend in for her first fitting. When you recommend us to someone who has been struggling to find a comfortable bra. When you leave a thoughtful review, share a post, or tell someone, “You should go see them.”

Those gestures help people find us and give someone the confidence to walk through the door. There are plenty of places to shop, and choosing a small, independent boutique for something as personal as lingerie means a great deal to me.

Looking back at the early days, I remember the decisions, expenses, nerves, and hope. Your support helped turn that hope into a business and now, the opportunity to expand.

The people who have carried me along the way

There are people behind these four years whose love and support deserve more than a passing thank-you.

First, my husband.

Even with the responsibilities of his own demanding career, he has consistently made time to help me build mine. He took on physically demanding work to get the shop up and running. To this day, he shows up for repairs, cleaning, and whatever needs doing. He’ll get on his hands and knees to make sure the shop is cared for, without hesitation.

No matter how much he accomplishes in his own career, he has never considered himself above the dirty work. I love that humility in him.

He even worked the register for a weekend while I was away on my first sourcing trip. He didn’t want me to miss out on sales, so he stepped into the shop and helped the women who came in. Customers still tell me about meeting him that weekend and how charming he was. I agree.

Jennie, thank you for having my back

I cannot tell the story of these four years without talking about Jennie, who has been beside me in the shop for the past two.

She came into my life during a frightening time. My health was so poor that I wondered whether I would be able to keep the shop going. I had put so much of myself into this business, and suddenly I wasn’t sure how I could continue.

Then came Jennie.

Selling lingerie requires knowledge, attention to detail, discretion, and empathy. I threw Jennie into the deep end, and she met the challenge with heart and determination, taking initiative even while she was still learning.

Jennie gave me something small business owners dream of: the ability to step away when I needed to and trust that my shop and customers were in caring, capable hands. Knowing she had my back meant I could give my health the attention it needed.

That trust is an enormous gift. She takes pride in her work, cares about the shop’s future, and celebrates its successes with me. I want this business to thrive for her, too.

And then there’s the laughter.

Jennie is hilarious and quick-witted, with a warm, nurturing heart. We laugh so much, and I can be my authentic, slightly squirrely self around her. She makes the hard days more bearable and has a way of making people feel cared for. She is a soft place to land.

Jennie, thank you for having my back.  Thank you for taking that leap, for everything you’ve learned, for the care you bring to the shop, and for being so wonderfully yourself. These past two years would have looked very different without you.

Two years of teamwork, so much heart, and a whole lot of laughter. Ow!

The friends and family behind the shop

To my best friend, my first customer, who will happily tell a stranger that I own a “fabulous lingerie shop” before I’ve even thought to mention it: thank you for never letting me stay too quiet or shy about something I’ve worked so hard to build. Having someone so enthusiastically in my corner means more than I can say.

Corri, I’ll never forget how excited you were to make a purchase that pushed me over the finish line when I was so close to reaching my first milestone before year-end. Or how you think of my shop first when choosing gifts for the people you love. As you build your own new life, with expenses and dreams of your own, you still make room to support mine. Your love, generosity, and enthusiasm are never lost on me. I notice, I’m grateful, and I love you.

To the friends who bought from me when my selection was still finding its personality, to put it kindly, thank you for believing in this little venture from the beginning. To my Woodstock community and the friends who stepped in when I needed help: thank you for your time, ideas, creative eye, and care. You’ve helped me solve problems and get through overwhelming days. And to the customers who have become close friends: you are one of the most meaningful things this shop has brought into my life.

To my fellow business owners who shop with me, recommend me, and offer a shoulder when things get tough: thank you. There is comfort in talking to someone who understands what it takes to unlock the door each morning, squeeze every penny and keep going. Your friendship and generosity have made this experience less lonely.

To my family, thank you for the encouragement, the helping hands, and for celebrating this milestone with me. And to my brother, who visits from California and somehow ends up tackling my shop to-do list: even the least glamorous jobs get your care and attention. I love you all, and I’m grateful for the ways you show up for me.

What this shop is really about

Finally, thank you to my dear friend and sister-in-law, Jennifer, whose story is woven into why this shop means so much to me.

Jenn and I have known each other for nearly 25 years, and she would probably be the first to tell you that I wasn’t her cup of tea when we met. She was a tough, punk-loving tomboy with little interest in my world, and we seemed like complete opposites. But over time, we found our way to each other. There were moments of letting me do her hair and makeup, lessons in how to “smize,” and a friendship that grew into something I treasure.

Years later, she trusted me with another first: exploring lingerie as something she could choose for herself, a way to feel good in her own skin. Watching her blossom further into her own expression of femininity has been beautiful. She tells me how much she loves wearing these pieces in her everyday life, and I can see the confidence and pleasure she takes in them.

I’ve also watched her give herself more permission to enjoy things she once might have talked herself out of—a beautiful dress, a special bag, a pair of shoes. There’s less guilt and more room to say, “I work hard, and I’m allowed to choose something just because I love it.” That freedom to care for herself and enjoy what she’s earned is what moves me.

In the photos I took of her recently, her confidence shines. She has always been beautiful to me, but there is an ease and a light in her now that makes me stop and look again. Seeing someone I love feel so at home in herself is a gift.

I see pieces of that story in so many women who walk through my door. Letting someone help you with something this personal takes courage. Sometimes the conversation begins with, “I’m not girly,” “No lace,” or “I just want comfort.” I listen. Those preferences belong here, too.

And sometimes curiosity takes over. A matching set catches her eye, she tries a little lace, and hesitation turns into delight. Sometimes she finds the comfortable, simple piece she wanted all along. What matters is that she feels heard and free to choose for herself.

Women’s empowerment lives in that freedom to choose for yourself. Jenn, and every woman who has trusted me enough to explore something personal: thank you for helping make this shop the welcoming space I hoped it could be.

Carrying that love into our next chapter

These relationships and experiences have shaped what I want The Red Foxxx to become. As we celebrate four years, I’m grateful for everyone who has helped this little shop grow and excited to bring that same care to our future Rhinebeck location.

I’m looking forward to the women we’ll meet, the friendships we haven’t made yet, and the first-time visitors who will eventually become familiar faces. Your support has given me the opportunity to take this step, and I carry that gratitude into every decision.

Expanding is also a thoughtful investment in the shop’s future. Running a small business takes planning, especially as costs rise and circumstances change. I want to build something that can keep serving our community for years to come.

There’s more to share as our Rhinebeck plans come together. For now, please know how much it means to have you alongside me.

Caring for the shop we’ve built together

Sharing these stories reminds me how much care has gone into The Red Foxxx. Protecting that work sometimes means making decisions that are less exciting to announce, but important to our future.

One of those decisions is updating our Returns & Exchanges policy.

Over the years, I’ve tried to be flexible because I know that purchases don’t always work out. I care about your experience, and saying no can be difficult for me. But I’ve learned that making exceptions isn’t always something the business can afford.

Every piece in the shop is inventory we’ve paid for. When something comes back worn, washed, or damaged, we can’t offer it to another customer. Even an exchange has a cost: a new piece leaves the shop, while the one coming back can no longer be sold. Those losses add up in a small business.

I also know how personal fit and comfort can be. We’ll take time to help you explore styles, answer questions, and assess how something feels. But a fitting cannot guarantee comfort after hours of wear, and we cannot accept worn pieces back for fit or comfort concerns. Please take your time during a careful try-on, keep the tags attached, and reach out if you’re unsure. We want to help you make a choice you feel good about.

Our updated policy puts those expectations in one place, including return deadlines, condition requirements, exchanges, and final-sale items. My hope is that being clear before you purchase makes things more comfortable for everyone later.

Thank you for understanding the care behind these boundaries. They help us look after the business that so many people have helped build and keep offering the personal attention that brought you here in the first place.

Here’s to what comes next

When I think about these four years, I picture the people: familiar faces walking through the door, laughter drifting out of the fitting room, friends showing up with helping hands, and quiet conversations that have stayed with me long after closing.

This shop holds so much of my heart. Knowing it has found a place in your lives, too, is something I’ll always be grateful for.

As we look toward Rhinebeck, I’m bringing everything these years have taught me and all the love and encouragement you’ve given me. I can’t wait to see who we’ll meet and what we’ll build next.

Thank you for four beautiful years of The Red Foxxx. You’ve helped make this dream part of my everyday life.

With love and gratitude,

Daisy
